Shanghai Riverside Promenade

Pudong Riverside Promenade, Shanghai China

The Riverside Promenade, which has a total length of 45 kilometers, runs along the Huangpu River, which flows through the center of Shanghai. The promenade is divided into five sections because it runs through five districts of the city. Yangpu Riverside 2.8 km Hongkou Riverside 2.5 km Huangpu Riverside 8.3 km Xuhui Riverside 8.4 km Pudong Riverside. 23.0 km The river used to be lined with ferry terminals, shipyards, factories and old residential areas. People who knew the Shanghai of that time report that the river was not a place to be. That changed with the construction of the promenade. Residential quarters and factories were relocated and a multifunctional park was created with bike paths, jogging tracks, marinas, cafes, etc. I had already reported about it in a previous post, but it always pulls me there and that's why here are more impressions. It's even become one of my favorite places in town. The Pudong Riverside is in full sun in the afternoon and especially on winter days it is good for long walks to soak up the sun or to look for a sheltered spot in the lee of one of the cafés and watch the ships that constantly pass by.

You can get to Pudong Promenade by subway line 2, station: Lujiazui. From there just walk towards the river which is behind the Oriental Pearl Tower or the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP). You can also take the ferry. If you want to drive over from the Bund with the colonial buildings (Waitan), you just have to catch the white and yellow ferries and cross over.

Hongkou Riverside

On the opposite side of Pudong is the Hongkou Riverside section. The Hongkou district begins or ends at the Waibaibu Bridge. From there you walk out of town, away from the Bund with the historic colonial buildings. However, there are fewer cafes in this section and the park-like grounds are not as spacious as on the Pudong side.

It happens from time to time that people kindly ask if they can take a picture with a European, like this policeman here.
